Our community is not your experiment

This is BAD for our community

We wanted to draw your attention to a particularly good quote from Wednesday night’s hearing was captured in the WFMZ story from community member/interested party Cliff Panneton:

“We also did an extensive search for anywhere in the United States,” Panneton said. “This would be the first time in Pennsylvania and possibly in the USA that a warehouse is directly feeding off a roundabout on a major highway. Do we want to risk an experiment in our community?”

The data and research he submitted bore this out. He confirmed no such warehouse of any size or use in Pennsylvania has this bizarre and frankly dangerous exit/entry situation: an 80+ acre site and million-square-foot space feeding onto a highway roundabout.

Not only is it dangerous to lean on the opinions of traffic engineers and/or planning experts in favor of the proposal — how can they assess the true impact of something that’s never been done? — but it’s dangerous to try this expensive, pollution-heavy project in Maidencreek Township.

This project holds frankly no benefits to members of this community. It has no tangible upside to us whatsoever. All we get is:

  • more pollution
  • more congestion
  • an increased risk of accidents/dangerous driving involving tractor-trailers
  • a significant hit to property values
  • plenty of as-yet-unforeseen environmental issues should we experience heavy rain/flooding, or should there be a fire/incident at the warehouse itself

It is NOT TOO LATE to be heard and for this proposal to be rejected.

One response to “Our community is not your experiment”

  1. […] have documented all these incidents in our blog archive, and we are again amplifying the fact that this warehouse would be, to our knowledge, unprecedented in how it uses one single exit from one roundabout as the only exit/entry point for this […]
