[UPDATE: the Reading Eagle article on this morning’s accident noted that the accident was around 6am and the road was finally opened around 11am. That’s a long time for our community to be effectively shut down.]
While we continue to build and organize our case against the million-square-foot warehouse — and the notable INCREASE in truck traffic such a development would bring to our community — there’s been another truck accident in Maidencreek this morning.
Not only is this likely caused by unsafe driving — sorry, PennDOT, but signs do not curb driver behavior whatsoever — but it happened during the school bus rush and the early morning commute, as was recorded and reported by Save Maidencreek members around 6.30am this morning.

That’s an overturned 18-wheeler blocking one lane of traffic on Rt. 222 at the Genesis Drive/Tamarack Blvd roundabout. The incident snarled traffic to the extent that cars and trucks were forced onto smaller neighborhood roads so they could successfully get the truck upright and resume safe travel along that busy stretch.

It of course required cranes and heavy machinery to resolve.

Furthermore, school buses attempting to do the middle school and elementary school runs were unable to serve those communities due to rerouted traffic patterns and closed roadways, impacting our friends and neighbors in myriad ways.

Again, THERE IS NO WAREHOUSE and still this is happening as trucks and cars alike continue to use this stretch as some kind of raceway, thereby speeding into roundabouts at unsafe speeds and resulting in many, many accidents like the above.
We have documented all these incidents in our blog archive, and we are again amplifying the fact that this warehouse would be, to our knowledge, unprecedented in how it uses one single exit from one roundabout as the only exit/entry point for this million-square-foot facility — one that will likely house batteries for East Penn’s fulfillment operation.)
This fight is NOT OVER. This warehouse is NOT A DONE DEAL. Join us on FB or donate where noted to help sustain our battle. WE CAN WIN THIS FIGHT and WE CAN PRESERVE OUR COMMUNITY.
